TwitterJobSearch: A Good Resource If You’re Looking for Web Work

tjslogo Layoffs are on the rise in the tech industry, and web workers are feeling the crunch. In the meantime, however, there are a number of good resources cropping up for web workers in need of work. Webware has been doing regular updates on not only who is laying off tech workers, but who’s hiring — in particular, who’s hiring people with web skills. In addition to the Webware list, ODesk, Elance and other resources for web workers who need jobs, it’s worth keeping TwitterJobSearch in mind.

TwitterJobSearch searches Twitter for posts on who is hiring. The posted jobs range from full-time, to part-time work-at-home, to one-off hired gun positions. Many of the positions listed are tech jobs, and the number of posts is at critical mass, with Twitter being the social phenomenon that it is.

As I write this, TwitterJobSearch reports nearly 40,000 jobs posted in the past seven days. The home page regularly updates how many positions are being posted.

I did a search for “web designer in San Francisco,” and got back lots of interesting results. There were jobs posted for work-at-home UI designers, a post seeking an expert on the Drupal open source content management system who could work in San Francisco or not, and many others.

If you look at where the tweets collected by TwitterJobSearch are coming from, it’s obvious that many people putting them on job boards around the web are simultaneously placing them on Twitter. That makes a lot of sense, and it removes job seekers from having to know where every job board relevant to their skills are.

Those of us fortunate to be gainfully employed in this harsh economic environment should be thankful. If you’re in search of web work, though, add TwitterJobSearch to your daily arsenal of places to look for opportunities.
